Work

Yippee!!! Good News, at least one of us has a paying job. S found employment with a local company doing landscaping. He reports that the work is as hard the labor he did for the forest service when fighting fires and the hours are just as long, but that he enjoys being productive. Monday just before we ate dinner S was explaining how absolutely depressed he was about being un-employed (teaching one class at WMU (aka 'Western') doesn't count as employment - it doesn't pay enough to grow beans!) Just after dinner he got a call from his now-boss to report he was hired, and to report to the office at 7 am - just 12 hours later. Instantly his whole demeanor changed. It is so nice to have S. back to normal.

As for me, I'm still applying for jobs, keeping S. full of food - which his consumption of sustinance has increased since beginning work! It's no-wonder, he has a metabolism that burns calories as fast as a rocket burns gasoline. "LUCK-E"! Tuesday evening I was in the middle of cleaning up dinner (chicken cacciatore with orzo and fresh green beans)and I got my first phone call for an interview for a member services representative position from the local hospital , and wouldn't you know it, right in the middle of the call my dumb cell phone cut the connection and lost the call! I was so mad at my luck! I was sure they thought I had purposely hung up on them. But my luck turned for the better as they called back a while later and figured that the call had been dropped.

We still have not gotten any church callings yet. Sunday we learned why: the 3 wards in Kzoo are very lopsided in numbers, our ward being in the least amount, and the stake is holding a 3-ward meeting this sunday to redistribute the membership among the wards. I'm hoping to escape any major calling in the future weeks. Is it wrong of me to enjoy going to church and NOT having to do anything??? I do love it, but fear it won't last long.

  1. SO glad to hear about the jobs and hopefully yours will be just around the corner. (ps, I loved my jobs as a Patient rep her in Cedar and it has helped tons learning all the insurance and medical stuff) And, no I don't think it is wrong to enjoy being a congregationalist for awhile. It takes a lot out of you to just move to a new area, get settled in, etc.

  2. Well, when they call you to RS Pres, I won't be surprised! Just cross your fingers it isn't nursery leader, and I'll cross mine for you! We love you guys! Congrats on the job/s!

  3. Congrats on the job! Oh man I can totally understand what a guy is like without a job. Rocky was horrible until he finally started to do some coaching for the J.V. High School football team for MVHS. It doesn't pay very much, roughly 4 bucks an hour after he's all finished, but to get him out of the house while he's unemployed is good enough for me. He's a grouch without a job! You have just given me new hope that a job may be in the future for us too. As for the church calling, oh yeah it's nice to take a break sometimes! Hope you are able to get your job too!

  4. Not having a calling is nice for a little while, but after a while it just gets boring. I got released from nursery 11 months ago, and have yet to be called to anything else. It was cool until after Christmas, but now I feel that no one wants me! Much like Seth said about needing to work, spiritual labor is good for the soul!
